Land of Conspiracy?

A pair of University of Guelph professors have joined a growing number of academics and filmmakers who are writing and broadcasting their doubts about the official explanation behind the attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon in 2001.
In a host of public forums, John McMurtry, professor emeritus of philosophy, and Michael Keefer, a professor in the School of English and Theatre Studies, have presented arguments alleging a plot on the part of the American government, business and military leaders related to the events of Sept. 11, 2001.

Bin Laden driver knew 911 Target says Prosecutor

Hamdan's lawyer said in opening statements that the Yemeni, held for nearly seven years before his trial, was just a paid employee of the fugitive al Qaeda leader, a driver in the motor pool who never joined the militant group or plotted attacks on America.
But prosecutor Timothy Stone told the six-member jury of U.S. military officers who will decide Hamdan's guilt or innocence that Hamdan had inside knowledge of the 2001 attacks on the United States because he overheard a conversation between bin Laden and his deputy, Ayman al-Zawahiri.
"If they hadn't shot down the fourth plane it would've hit the dome," Stone, a Navy officer, said in his opening remarks.
The tribunal's chief prosecutor, Col. Lawrence Morris, later explained that Stone was quoting Hamdan in evidence that will be presented at trial. Morris declined to say if the "dome" was a reference to the U.S. Capitol.

Pentagon Attempted To Cover-Up KBR’s Negligence In Electrocution Of U.S. Soldier

On January 2, 2008, Army Staff Sergeant Ryan Maseth was electrocuted while taking a shower at the Legion Security Forces Building in Baghdad. Press reports have indicated that contractor KBR ignored repeated warnings about the unsafe wiring.
Furthermore, in sworn testimony on June 6, 2008, Hummer said he was shocked at least four times in the shower between June and October 2007. In each case, KBR personnel tried to fix the hazard. Today, the Pentagon IG admitted he was wrong to claim KBR was not aware of the electrical danger.

British Kids Encouraged To Become “Climate Cops”

A leading British energy company blitzed the newspapers with full page colour advertisements this weekend which encourage children to sign up as "climate cops" and keep "climate crime case files" on their families, friends and neighbours.

The ads, run by Npower, promote a website at http://climatecops.com/ where "trainees" must complete three missions before they can join the "elite cadets" and "train to become a climate cop".

EXCLUSIVE: To Provoke War, Cheney Considered Proposal To Dress Up Navy Seals As Iranians And Shoot At Them

Speaking at the Campus Progress journalism conference earlier this month, Seymour Hersh — a Pulitzer-Prize winning journalist for The New Yorker — revealed that Bush administration officials held a meeting recently in the Vice President’s office to discuss ways to provoke a war with Iran.
In Hersh’s most recent article, he reports that this meeting occurred in the wake of the overblown incident in the Strait of Hormuz, when a U.S. carrier almost shot at a few small Iranian speedboats. The “meeting took place in the Vice-President’s office. ‘The subject was how to create a casus belli between Tehran and Washington,’” according to one of Hersh’s sources.

If You Care About the Troops, Then You Have to Care About Private LaVena Johnson

LaVena Johnson, a private in the Army was brutally raped, beaten and killed in 2005. Her teeth were knocked in, her nose broken, she had teeth marks on her body and there was corrosive liquid poured into her vagina, most likely to destroy evidence. Then she was shot and her body set on fire. After all this, the military called it ... a suicide.
Who are they kidding? What is the real reason they are covering up this murder? A trail of blood from the private's body led into the tent of a military contractor from Kellogg, Brown & Root (a subsidiary of Halliburton at the time). I don't want to make any conclusions now about who might have done this and why it was covered up, but one thing that is exceedingly clear from the evidence is that she was murdered and there needs to be an investigation into who did it.
There is a website set up to follow this case and demand justice: http://www.lavenajohnson.com/

Eye scans, fingerprints to control NZ borders

Border control staff will be able to use iris scans and finger printing to check passengers’ identities under major changes to New Zealand immigration rules.
Despite criticism from Amnesty International at the level of secrecy permitted, the changes look set to become law, with the National Party pledging its support.

TSA ramps up program to psychologically screen airline passengers

In addition to having your bags scanned, taking off your shoes and emptying your pockets on the way to your plane, prepare to have an on-the-spot psychoanalysis as well.
The TSA is in the process of training "behavior detection officers" to seek out involuntary physical and physiological signs of "stress, fear or deception" among air passengers to help determine who to subject to additional screening at airport security checkpoints.
SPOT, short for the Screening Passengers by Observation Technique, has so far been tested in major airports such as Boston, Providence, and Minneapolis-St. Paul. In addition, the Los Angeles Times reported, a "handful" of airports were added last December.

Dear Mr. Bin Laden

Osama Bin Laden
c/o Central Intelligence Agency
Office of Public Affairs
Washington, DC 20505

Mr. Bin Laden,
I'm sorry we haven't gotten around to killing you, but it's time you knew why.

Remember the caves of Tora Bora, where, according to CIA officer, we had you pinned back in December 2001? Remember how you were able to escape because our military wouldn't send the extra troops the CIA requested?

Now let me ask you: Do you think that was a mistake? Do you think the United States of America---with it's special forces, spy satellites, UAV's, and intelligence-gathering capabilities---can't find one sickly, freakishly tall multimillionaire with whom it once enjoyed close ties? I mean, honestly, Mr Bin Laden.

Truth is, you've been a pawn in the in the most successful covert mission in history: "Operation Make More Terrorist," an ingenuous strategy drawn up by America's top minds on the morning of September 12, 2001. Its six objectives:
-Fail to capture Bin Laden at all costs, allow him to achieve mythic status.
-cover up the 30 year Bin Laden Bush oil business family ties.
-Invade a Middle Eastern country with no ties to 9-11.
-Wait until 2005, then disband the CIA unit assigned to capturing Bin Laden.
-?
-Win the war on terror, (using the endless war on drugs as a model).

Now can you imagine what would've happened if we'd killed you at Tora Bora a scant two months after September 12, 2001? Or if we'd focused our military might on Afghanistan instead of hunting for make-believe WMD's in Iraq?

Exactly. It would've been a catastrophe. but fear not, Mr. Bin Laden. As of this writing, you're in your early fifties. Considering your health problems, family history, and lifestyle, I give you another thirty or forty years tops. So take that.

Just keep on truckin',

The Reece Committee: Social Science as a Tool for Control

In 1954 the Reece Committee, chaired by Carroll B. Reece, produced its findings regarding the influence of tax-exempt foundations in the field of education.* The report also briefly mentions their influence in politics, propaganda, social sciences and international affairs. The Rockefeller Foundation, Ford Foundation, Carnegie Foundation and others were discussed during the Committee hearings.
A predominant theme found in the Committee's findings is the desire of the foundations and those behind them to create a system of world governance. The use of propaganda and social engineering was identified as a means to and end to achieve this goal. In 1932, the president of the Rockefeller Foundation, Max Mason, stated that "The social sciences... will concern themselves with the rationalization of social control..."
"Mr. WORMSER. Professor, back to this term "social engineering," again, is there not a certain presumption, or presumptuousness, on the part of social scientists, to consider themselves a group of the elite who are solely capable and should be given the sole opportunity to guide us in our social development? They exclude by inference, I suppose, religious leaders and what you might call humanistic leaders. They combine the tendency toward the self-generated social engineering concept with a high concentration of power in that interlocking arrangement of foundations and agencies, and it seems to me you might have something rather dangerous." [emphasis added] (p. 579)

Have Scientists Discovered a Cure for Alzheimers?

That is why the publication last week of research showing that an old Russian drug once prescribed for hay fever may be the most effective treatment yet for the devastating condition has captured the attention of scientists and patients' groups.
A single 20mg pill of the drug, called Dimebon, taken three times a day, appears to be twice as effective in improving cognitive performance and preventing deterioration in memory as existing drugs.

Human trafficking may be on the rise in North Carolina

Legal Aid runs a program, the Battered Immigrant Project, that offers assistance to immigrant victims of domestic abuse and human trafficking. The program receives most of its referrals from domestic violence shelters, law enforcement and churches, and Stuart said the number of referrals has “definitely increased” in the last few months.

She said she doesn't know whether human trafficking or just awareness of the problem is rising. But North Carolina is becoming an attractive state for traffickers because of its growing population and the availability of farm work, Stuart said.

How Scores of Black Men Were Tortured into Giving False Confessions by Chicago Police

According to Tillman's 1986 trial testimony, when he arrived at the Area 2 police station in the predawn hours of July 21, 1986, Detectives Ronald Boffo and Peter Dignan took him to a second-floor interrogation room and pressed him for information about the murder of 42-year-old Betty Howard, whose body was found the day prior in the apartment building Tillman oversaw. When he told the detectives that he knew nothing about the murder, he says that Boffo and Dignan, along with three other officers, became abusive. Without ever reading him his Miranda rights, he says they handcuffed him to the wall, hit him in the face and punched him in the stomach until he vomited blood. During the course of what appeared to be three days, rotating pairs of officers brought him to the railroad tracks behind the station and held a gun to his head, suffocated him repeatedly with thick plastic bags, poured soda up his nose and forced him into Dumpsters outside of the apartment building, ordering him to search through the rubbish for a murder weapon until, according to Detective John Yucaitis, Tillman confessed to the crime.

Why 'Licking your Wounds' Actually Works

A report by scientists from The Netherlands published in The FASEB Journal identifies a compound in human saliva that greatly speeds wound healing. This research may offer hope to people suffering from chronic wounds related to diabetes and other disorders, as well as traumatic injuries and burns.
Specifically, scientists found that histatin, a small protein in saliva previously only believed to kill bacteria was responsible for the healing.

Columnist Robert Novak's Hit and Run

Brought to you by the good folks who outed an undercover CIA agent in retaliation for her husband's debunking of our reasons to go to war with Iraq...

The conservative commentator and columnist kept driving after the crash. In an exclusive interview with ABC 7 News, Novak, 77, said didn't know he had hit someone until a bicyclist stopped him a block away.
"I do not believe Novak did not see or hear or feel the impact," Gary Cohen, an eyewitness, said. "I don't know how anyone could."
The investigating officer apparently believe Novak's version. Novak was issued a $50 fine for failure to yield the right of way to a pedestrian.
All of the witnesses contacted by ABC 7 News say they have not been interviewed by police. Many also said the officer did not seem eager to talk to them.

No smoking hot spot

I DEVOTED six years to carbon accounting, building models for the Australian Greenhouse Office. I am the rocket scientist who wrote the carbon accounting model (FullCAM) that measures Australia's compliance with the Kyoto Protocol, in the land use change and forestry sector.
FullCAM models carbon flows in plants, mulch, debris, soils and agricultural products, using inputs such as climate data, plant physiology and satellite data. I've been following the global warming debate closely for years.
But since 1999 new evidence has seriously weakened the case that carbon emissions are the main cause of global warming, and by 2007 the evidence was pretty conclusive that carbon played only a minor role and was not the main cause of the recent global warming. As Lord Keynes famously said, "When the facts change, I change my mind. What do you do, sir?"

American Physicists warned not to debate global warming

Bureaucrats at the American Physical Society (APS) have issued a curious warning to their members about an article in one of their own publications. Don't read this, they say - we don't agree with it. But what is it about the piece that is so terrible, that like Medusa, it could make men go blind?
It's an article that examines the calculation central to climate models. As the editor of the APS's newsletter American Physics Jeffrey Marque explains, the global warming debate must be re-opened.

Police ’spend 25 years’ filling in stop and search forms

Police officers spent the equivalent of 25 years filling in stop and search forms last year.
Officers carried out 1.87 million “stops” on members of the public in 2006/07, up from 1.4 million.
Each stop and search form takes an estimated seven minutes each to fill in.

Police 'stop and accounts' Rise by 1/3

Police used their powers to stop nearly two million members of the public in the street and demand they account for their behaviour or actions, Ministry of Justice figures published today revealed.
The “stop and account” statistics, being published for the first time, reveal the scale of police use of the powers, and show that black people are two and a half times more likely than whites to be questioned on the street.

Obama and the Airplane

By Andrew W. Griffin
Red Dirt Report, editor
Posted: July 8, 2008

OKLAHOMA CITY -- As reported here at Red Dirt Report, via a story linked the St. Louis Post-Dispatch website, Sen. Barack Obama's airplane had to make an emergency landing at Lambert Field in St. Louis, Mo. and as of now, the FAA is "conducting an investigation' according to reports. Seems strange, though. Of course Sen. Obama took the incident in stride, according to reports.

And as I've written previously, in my article "Stay safe, Obama," many have expressed concern about Sen. Obama's safety as he tours the country campaigning for president, particularly as he flies from town to town. Planes do fall out of the sky sometimes and sadly more than one have contained outspoken political figures.

Yes, it goes without saying that there have been a number of politicians, many outspoken, who have died in air crashes of varying sorts, including Rep. Larry McDonald, D-Ga., who died in 1983 aboard KAL 007 near Sakhalin Island, USSR when the Soviets shot it down when it entered their airspace, or so the story goes. McDonald, a member of the John Birch Society, had been outspoken about a growing communist presence in the world and an impending New World Order.

And then there was Sen. Paul Wellstone, D-Minn., who died in October 2002 aboard a plane which crashed mysteriously in northern Minnesota. Wellstone had voted against the Iraq war resolution weeks earlier. He was extremely disliked by the Republicans, particularly Vice-President Dick Cheney and the neoconservative faction. My February 2005 Alexandria, La. Town Talk review of Four Arrows and Jim Fetzer's "American Assassination: The Strange Death of Sen. Paul Wellstone" book about the murder of Wellstone, really opened my eyes to the issues surrounding that crash. I have no doubt that plane was taken down on purpose and the feds knew it was going to happen in advance, not unlike the 9/11 attacks.

Others include Reps. Nick Begich, D-Alaska and Hale Boggs, D-La. in October 1972 in Alaska. They were never found. Boggs had been on the Warren Commission and doubted the 'single-bullet theory' and some say wanted to re-open an investigation into the assassination of President John F. Kennedy. Begich, meanwhile won his re-election posthumously, a few weeks later. However, since then, Rep. Don Young, R-Alaska, Mr. "Bridge-to-Nowhere" has held Begich's former seat.

And within a day of one another, Sen. John Heinz, R-Penn. and former Senator and Iran-Contra figure John Tower, R-Texas, were killed in bizarre air crashes - Heinz in a helicopter and Tower in a plane - during the first week of April 1991. Also killed aboard Tower's plane was a NASA astronaut from Georgia, Manley Lanier "Sonny" Carter, Jr. What did Tower know?

There was Missouri Gov. Mel Carnahan who ran against Republican incumbent Sen. John Ashcroft in 2000. On Oct. 17, Carnahan' s plane crashed. Jean Carnahan, his widow, replaced him after he posthumously won. Of course Ashcroft would soon be named US Attorney General under the Bush Administration.

Do you remember the Clinton Administration's Secretary of Commerce Ron Brown? He also died during the first week of April, this time in 1996, during a mission to Croatia, Brown and 34 other Americans perished in a bizarre air crash, not dissimilar to the one that killed Wellstone and his entourage.

Speculation has swirled since then about why Brown may have been targeted. First, he was facing a Justice Department investigation and possible jail time as well as the wrath of Bill and Hillary Clinton in the wake of Whitewater and other money-related scandals. One online report says Brown told Clinton he wouldn't take the rap and that he'd spill the beans on Clinton's involvement. From then, the report says, Brown was a 'dead man walking.'

So, now we have Obama, a rising star in American politics on the verge of becoming president. Are there powerful forces that would want to thwart his attempts to become president? Various secret societies, racist elites and elements of the military-industrial complex would most definitely prefer a John McCain presidency because he would go with the "business-as-usual" program and continue the war on Mesopotamia for 100 years.

Think back to JFK and his optimistic proclamations. Sure, he made some mistakes but sought to bring peace to the world and spoke out against secrecy in government and the powerful influence of secret societies.

In '"Dark Mission: The Secret History of NASA," the incredible new book by Richard C. Hoagland and Mike Bara, he notes that the USSR's Nikita Khrushchev was open to JFK's offer to have a peaceful, joint US-Soviet mission to the Moon.

Hoagland and Bara write that Khrushchev's son has said recently that his father had agreed to this joint mission to explore the mysterious Moon but that powerful congressmen like Albert Thomas, the Texas congressman who was aboard Air Force One after JFK was assassinated were against a joint mission. Tellingly, it's Thomas who winks at a smiling, just-sworn-in President Lyndon B. Johnson as everyone else looks sad and bewildered by JFK's murder.

Who really knows what an Obama presidency would bring to America. While I'm not necessarily an Obama supporter, there is an optimism in his speeches and presence that many people find very attractive, particularly when matched against McCain's crotchety, shaking-his-fist-at-the sky old man routine.

Scarily, though, history shows us that idealistic leaders usually are stopped before they can truly shine and lead humanity to a better day. I pray that Sen. Barack Obama continues to have a safe journey as he travels our great country in hopes of being the next president.

Mechanic: Obama's Plane Could Have 'Lost Control' in Anomaly

When Barack Obama's plane encountered mechanical problems during a flight on Monday, was the presumptive Democratic presidential candidate in more danger than anyone let on, including his campaign staff, a major airline, the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB)—or the senator himself? "Everything seemed under control," Obama told reporters onboard his charter MD-80 after an unscheduled touchdown. "The pilots knew what they were doing."
But even as the head of the NTSB called the agency's investigation of the incident "extremely serious," a veteran MD-80 flight mechanic described the onboard irregularity to PopularMechanics.com as potentially "extremely dangerous."

Obama Plane: Passengers Told They Might Have to Assume Brace Position

That ultimately did not happen, but National Transportation Safety Board chairman Mark Rosenker told ABC News' Dennis Powell yesterday that the incident "is extremely serious in this particular case."
An inflatable slide in the tail cone of the plane had deployed, making control of the plane tough. "There are hydraulic lines back there," Rosenker says. 'There are control cables that deal with the elevators and other area's of control surfaces for the aircraft, and could potentially make it extremely difficult if not impossible to fly the aircraft."

Just two of the 19 dishes on the dinner menu at the G8 food shortages summit

As the food crisis began to bite, the rumblings of discontent grew louder. Finally, after a day of discussing food shortages and soaring prices, the famished stomachs of the G8 leaders could bear it no longer.
The most powerful bellies in the world were last night compelled to stave off the great Hokkaido Hunger by fortifying themselves with an eight-course, 19-dish dinner prepared by 25 chefs. This multi-pronged attack was launched after earlier emergency lunch measures - four courses washed down with Château-Grillet 2005 - had failed to quell appetites enlarged by agonising over feeding the world's poor.
But not since Marie Antoinette was supposed to have leaned from a Versailles palace window and suggested that the breadless peasants eat cake can leaders have demonstrated such insensitivity to daily hardship than at the luxury Windsor hotel on the Japanese island of Hokkaido.

Alan Dershowitz and the name of 1 Child, with proof

Dear Professor Dershowitz: I watched you speak (thanks to YouTube) on 04 May at the symposium titled “Defending Truth: Legal and Moral Imperatives of Holocaust Denial.” I understand that the event was organized by the U. of Baltimore School of Law and the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum’s Center for Advanced Holocaust Studies.

I agree with you that questions about the Holocaust should be open to the “marketplace of ideas.” Since February I have been asking academics to provide me with the name of “one person, with proof, who was killed in a gas chamber at Auschwitz.” The first professor to whom I addressed the question was Deborah Lipstadt of Emory U., the lady whose virtues you speak of with such enthusiasm during your talk. In the event, Professor Lipstadt did not respond.

Since then I have asked hundreds of academics that one question. The question does [not] claim that the gas chambers did not exist, and does not make a claim that the “Holocaust” did not happen. It is a very simple, direct question. To date, not one academic has provided me with such a name, and none has attempted to do so.

For example, I have written the Director of one of the agencies that sponsored the symposium where you spoke, Dr. Paul Shapiro, director of the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum’s Center for Advance Holocaust Studies. Could he provide me with the name of “one person, with proof …” He has maintained the same discreet silence in response to this simple inquiry that most all others have used to – how shall I put it – to perhaps evade the question.

In your talk at the U. Baltimore symposium you suggest that Holocaust minimizers like Hilberg, Chomsky, and Finkelstein are more difficult to deal with because, unlike straight out “deniers,” their writings are not based on “the existence or non-existence of gas chambers.” You ask, “Why are gas chambers so important?” And you respond to your question by saying: “If there were gas chambers, everything else from the [Holocaust] narrative follows.” The implication is, if there were no gas chambers, everything else in the Holocaust narrative would “falter.” I think you are right about this.

In your talk you speak movingly, and I believe sincerely, about the “importance” of the mass murder of Jewish children in the genocide of the Jews. You argue that “the children had to be killed first” because they were “the genetic future of the Jewish people.” And: “They were the genes. That was the genocide.”

Professor Dershowitz: can you provide the name, with proof, of one Jewish child who was killed in a gas chamber at Auschwitz?

Professor Dershowitz: do you believe it is morally right for academics to forward the charge against Germans of having murdered a million or so civilians in gas chambers at Auschwitz, and at the same time act out the role of “bystanders” by refusing to commit themselves to providing the name of one person – one child or one adult, with proof – who was murdered in one of those rooms?

Thank you for your time.
Bradley R. Smith

A Fifth of Beethoven Black Label on the Fourth of July

When I think about America, I think about an experiment. It’s not a country really. It’s an experiment. It was a canvas but the canvas wasn’t blank. There were rivers and trees, animals and people… some kind of landscape portrait which they gessoed white, so they could try some kind of modern art over the top and over the top it went. White can’t say much without black so they brought in a lot of different kinds of blacks for that chiaroscuro shades of gray thing and they brought in all the other colors they could find and they cooked it and stroked it and pushed it and pounded and formed it. They three dimensionalized it into the hollow of endless hands that ran it through every ritual and routine they could think of. They brought in lights and mirrors and music. They brought in ball room dancers. They wined it and dined it and then they took it home and they screwed it. They screwed it in every position and they photographed that …and then decoupaged it on to an old dining room table and then they put it in a history book with footnotes and fables for the benefit of the need to believe.
Then they put it out on the street and they sold it for whatever they could get and every time somebody porked it, it got a little less attractive until they just spit on it and punched out its lights and then threw it away in an empty, weeded lot and used it for target practice. Every bullet was a sperm engine that made it pregnant with pigs. Now we find ourselves in the final chapters of The Last Exit to Brooklyn.
I am sure that some few tried to make love to it but the nature of the experiment made that an impossible thing. You wind up In Human Bondage. From The Great White Way to Las Vegas in the sand, it’s the thing that isn’t the thing, being sold as The Thing; the thing that doesn’t exist.

Small Farms Best for Environment, says Organic Group

In contrast, organic farms could increase output by 10 times by growing many different species of plants at the same time, which helped retain soil and water, she said. "In a one-acre farm in India they can grow 250 species of plants," she said.
Shiva has began a civil disobedience campaign in India against the patenting of natural seeds, particularly of crops that resist flooding and drought and can better withstand climate change.
"We need this worldwide. Seeds are for everyone," she said.
According to IFOAM, a quarter of greenhouse gases are emitted by industrially farmed crops and livestock. The proportion rises to 40 percent when including the emissions caused by transporting commodities around the world.

IFOAM members also criticized the production of fuel from grains, citing a U.S. university study that it took 1.3 gallons of fossil fuel to make 1 gallon of ethanol from corn.

The United States and Brazil defended their use of corn and sugar cane to make ethanol to fuel cars at the UN food summit saying it was a minor factor in food price inflation.

Call for an Immediate Moratorium on US Incentives for Biofuels

While the Organic Consumers Association (OCA) supports the production of biofuels from recycled waste (such as used vegetable oil, manure or sewage) and biomass sustainably grown and harvested for the benefit of local communities, the current focus on subsidizing big-agribusiness with billions of dollars of funding for inefficient fuels, while ignoring energy conservation, is a recipe for disaster. These misguided funding priorities have taken tens of billions of dollars of funding away from essential greenhouse gas reduction policies, such as energy conservation, solar and wind power, fuel-efficiency technologies, and mass transit. Many of the current methods of industrial-scale biofuel production are also causing food shortages and worsening global warming by increasing deforestation and degradation of peatlands and soils.
Increasing fuel efficiency by just 3% would reduce US dependence on foreign oil more than all of the agrofuels combined, yet more than 500% more taxpayer money is spent on subsidizing ethanol than energy conservation, mass transit, solar, wind, and fuel-efficient technologies combined.
Read a thought-provoking fact sheet on biofuels here.

The Rise and Fall of Suburbia (vid)

A fascinating 52 minute documentary on the rise and fall of suburbia. In order to successfully transition through the global food crisis, climate change and peak oil, the new suburbia must reinvent a sustainable "mom and pop" localized economy.

Assessment of GM Technology

"Assessment of the GM technology lags behind its development, information is anecdotal and contradictory, and uncertainty about possible benefits and damage is unavoidable."

Source: A report released earlier this year from the United Nations World Food Program. The study was funded by the biotech industry and 60 nations, including the U.S., and clearly admits that genetically modified crops are not the solution to the food crisis. Upon finding out the results, the US, UK, Australia and Canada refused to endorse the international study. The study also warns that biofuels and climate change are leading causes of the global food crisis.

Entire Towns Obtain Fair Trade Status

Ama Kade harvests cocoa pods in Ghana. Kanya Osori grows rice in northeastern Thailand. Palemon Cuno Surco creates traditional Peruvian pottery in a small village near Cusco. They live thousands of miles away from each other, speak different languages and their cultures couldn’t be more different. But they do have something in common: people in Taos, New Mexico, and Media, Pennsylvania, want to buy their goods and pay them a fair price. So do the people in Amherst, Massachusetts, and Milwaukee, Wisconsin. These communities are part of a small but growing group committed to supporting fair trade, so much so that they’ve gone through the steps to become recognized as Fair Trade Towns.

GM Will Not Solve Current Food Crisis, says Industry Boss

Martin Taylor, chairman of Syngenta, said the current industry focus on farmers in rich countries meant it would take 20 years to launch crop varieties designed to address the problems of the developing world. He told the Guardian: "GM won't solve the food crisis, at least not in the short term."

His words appear to contradict statements from UK politicians, industry bodies and the European Commission that GM technology should be considered as a way to address chronic shortages and soaring prices of basic staples across the world.

How to Shop Organic without Breaking Your Budget

Most of us would love to have a fridge full of fresh organic produce and meats. But because pesticide and hormone-free products often have a premium price tag, going organic can seem like a luxury for anyone on a tight budget. So how do you make sure the green on your table doesn't drain the green from your wallet?
If you can't afford to fill your entire shopping cart with organic food, you can still feel good about what you buy. Sarah Bratnober, communications director at the Organic Valley Family of Farms, advises following the 80/20 rule—80 percent of the benefits come from 20 percent of the purchases. Think about what your family eats the most of, then go from there. For example, if you have a choice between organic milk and organic mayonnaise, and your kids go through a gallon of milk in a week but only two tablespoons of mayo, go for the milk. Fruits and vegetables are also good choices, especially the ones your family eats lots of. And if you have the option, get into community-supported agriculture, where you own shares in a farm and get a share of whatever it produces.

FDA Finally Acknowledges Toxicity of Mercury Fillings

It's the beginning of the end for mercury fillings. After a decade-long battle, Consumers for Dental Choice announced that they'd settled a lawsuit that will compel the FDA to comply with a new law and classify mercury amalgam.
Now, the FDA Web site clearly states: "Dental amalgams contain mercury, which may have neurotoxic effects on the nervous systems of developing children and fetuses. When amalgam fillings are placed in teeth or removed from teeth, they release mercury vapor. Mercury vapor is also released during chewing. The fugitive former manager of the Bayou Group hedge fund, whose faked suicide on a Hudson River bridge and subsequent disappearance last month set off an international manhunt, turned himself in Wednesday morning in Southwick, Mass., just after speaking to his mother by phone.
Mr. Israel, the scion of a wealthy New Orleans family, now faces several more years in jail on top of the 20-year sentence he received in April for defrauding investors out of $450 million after the collapse of his Bayou Group hedge fund.

Hidden spy camera to catch fly-tippers is taken to rubbish dump

The expensive camera was placed inside a black bag beside a notorious illegal fly-tipping site. The disguise was so good that workers for Chichester District Council, West Sussex, cleared the camera believing it was genuine rubbish.
A spokesman for Privacy International, the human rights group formed as a watchdog on surveillance and invasions of privacy, said: "It would be hilarious if it wasn't so sad. It just goes to show why local authorities require greater scrutiny and accountability."

9/11 ILLNESSES 'GET WORSE'

Of 10,000 Ground Zero workers suing the city, medical records show 67 percent suffer respiratory ailments and 45 percent have a gastrointestinal disease, their lawyers claim.
The lawyers' tally includes: 4,517 people with upper respiratory ailments; 3,857 with lower respiratory illness; 398 with lung disease; 2,616 with asthma; 1,340 with sleep apnea; and 2,528 with a heart condition caused or worsened by 9/11.

Another One: Top Federal Judge Linked to Prostitution Ring

Edward Nottingham, the chief federal judge in Denver, Colo., was "implicated as a customer" in an ongoing IRS and Denver police investigation of an alleged prostitution operation called Denver Sugar/Denver Players, according to officials.
Unlike the prostitution investigation in New York that led to this week's resignation of New York Gov. Eliot Spitzer, the Denver case has received little attention outside Colorado.

Glenn Spagnuolo, Recreate 68, and the Denver Blood-bath

The Democratic National Convention in August promises to be a literal 'blood-bath' thanks to folks like Glenn Spagnuolo and his brainchild, Recreate 68. Denver police (all 1400 of them) and a contingent of 300 'borrowed officer' from Aurora will be ill-prepared to deal with the thousands of protesters who will be present on Denver's streets. Spagnuolo says that if there is any violence it will be the fault of the Denver police dept. Of course it will.Recreate 68 is a mere umbrella organization for the varied anarchist groups intending to 'disrupt' both the DNC in Denver and the RNC in September. Unless Denver and Minneapolis authorities boost their manpower on the streets Spagnuolo will get exactly what he and his ilk want - a blood-bath.

Homeless people die after bird flu vaccine trial in Poland

Three Polish doctors and six nurses are facing criminal prosecution after a number of homeless people died following medical trials for a vaccine to the H5N1 bird-flu virus.
Authorities claim that the alleged victims received £1-2 to be tested with what they thought was a conventional flu vaccine but, according to investigators, was actually an anti bird-flu drug.
The news of the investigation will come as another blow to the reputation of Poland's beleaguered and poverty-stricken national health service. In 2002, a number of ambulance medics were found guilty of killing their patients for commissions from funeral companies.

Joe Horn cleared by grand jury in Pasadena shootings

A Harris County grand jury on Monday ended the rancorous seven-month debate over Pasadena resident Joe Horn's decision to gun down two illegal immigrant burglars in his front yard, concluding the act was a justifiable use of deadly force and not murder.

US Teacher Suspended for letting students read Bestseller

An Indiana teacher who used a much lauded bestseller, The Freedom Writers Diary, to try to inspire under-performing high-school students has been suspended from her job without pay for 18 months.
The Writers Diary, a series of true stories written by inner-city teenagers, was put together by a teacher, Erin Gruwell, and has been celebrated as a model for transforming young lives. It was made into a film with Hilary Swank last year.
Teachers' union officials say that a single board member objected to swearing in the book. The school board member allegedly persuaded the other six officials to ban Heermann from teaching the book. It remains available in school libraries.

California to Legalize Weed for Everyone

This initiative will amend the Constitution of California to defend and safeguard the inalienable rights of the People against infringement by governments and corporations, providing for the lawful growth, sale, and possession of marijuana. Marijuana will be taxed through a system of stamps and licenses--a $5 stamp will be required for the sale of an eighth ounce of marijuana and a $50 annual license will be required for the growth of one marijuana plant. To protect participants and encourage participation in the system, such licenses and stamps will be available anonymously in stores where marijuana is sold.

Los Angeles judge drops Hollywood drug case after video contradicts police testimony

In echoes of Rampart scandal, defense attorney says officers planted cocaine on man accused of being a gang member. On surveillance tape produced at trial, one officer tells another: 'Be creative in your writing.'

A Los Angeles judge abruptly ended a trial and exonerated a man of possessing cocaine Monday after a courtroom confrontation in which a defense attorney produced a surprise video of his client's arrest that sharply contradicted the testimony of two police officers.

Superior Court Judge Monica Bachner dismissed charges against Guillermo Alarcon Jr., a grocery store worker, after prosecutors reviewed the tape and acknowledged that it was inconsistent with the officers' sworn testimony.

Waxman subpoenas FBI transcripts of Bush, Cheney interviews

House Oversight Committee Chairman Henry Waxman is demanding the Justice Department hand over transcripts of FBI interviews with President Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney conducted during the investigation into who outed former covert CIA agent Valerie Plame.
Waxman (D-CA) requested the transcripts of the FBI interviews earlier this month, after publication of Scott McClellan’s tell all memoir revealing Bush administration deception. A transcript of Cheney’s interview would be of particular interest because his former aide, I. Lewis “Scooter” Libby, was the only official convicted of a crime in relation to the Plame probe.
Libby told the FBI that it was “possible” Cheney instructed him to leak Plame’s name, Waxman wrote in his initial letter to Attorney General Michael Mukasey.

What Happened to WTC 7?

To the truthers, "building 7" the third building in the World Trade Center complex to collapse on September 11 is evidence that the mainstream media is in on the plot. On that day, the BBC reported the building's fall almost half an hour before it happened. Journalist Jane Standley was broadcast at 4.54pm eastern time reporting that the tower had collapsed but in the background, it was still standing.
It fell 26 minutes later, seven hours after the Twin Towers came down.
When the Standley clip hit YouTube, truthers bombarded the BBC's website with questions and accusations. Richard Porter, head of BBC world news, was forced to deny that the broadcaster was reading from the Bush conspirators' script. He said the BBC had misreported warnings from fire crews of the building's imminent collapse and instead stated that it had already happened. He blamed the confusion of the day for the mix-up. CNN had earlier reported rumours that a third building had either collapsed or was about to.

Mind Control by Cell Phone

Brainwaves change with a healthy person's conscious and unconscious mental activity and state of arousal. But scientists can do more with brainwaves than just listen in on the brain at work-they can selectively control brain function by transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS). This technique uses powerful pulses of electromagnetic radiation beamed into a person's brain to jam or excite particular brain circuits.
Although a cell phone is much less powerful than TMS, the question still remains: Could the electrical signals coming from a phone affect certain brainwaves operating in resonance with cell phone transmission frequencies? After all, the caller's cerebral cortex is just centimeters away from radiation broadcast from the phone's antenna. Two studies provide some revealing news.
The first, led by Rodney Croft, of the Brain Science Institute, Swinburne University of Technology in Melbourne, Australia, tested whether cell phone transmissions could alter a person's brainwaves. The researchers monitored the brainwaves of 120 healthy men and women while a Nokia 6110 cell phone—one of the most popular cell phones in the world—was strapped to their head. A computer controlled the phone's transmissions in a double-blind experimental design, which meant that neither the test subject nor researchers knew whether the cell phone was transmitting or idle while EEG data were collected. The data showed that when the cell phone was transmitting, the power of a characteristic brain-wave pattern called alpha waves in the person's brain was boosted significantly. The increased alpha wave activity was greatest in brain tissue directly beneath to the cell phone, strengthening the case that the phone was responsible for the observed effect.
Alpha Waves of Brain
Alpha waves fluctuate at a rate of eight to 12 cycles per second (Hertz). These brainwaves reflect a person's state of arousal and attention. Alpha waves are generally regarded as an indicator of reduced mental effort, "cortical idling" or mind wandering. But this conventional view is perhaps an oversimplification. Croft, for example, argues that the alpha wave is really regulating the shift of attention between external and internal inputs. Alpha waves increase in power when a person shifts his or her consciousness of the external world to internal thoughts; they also are the key brainwave signatures of sleep.
Cell Phone Insomnia
If cell phone signals boost a person's alpha waves, does this nudge them subliminally into an altered state of consciousness or have any effect at all on the workings of their mind that can be observed in a person's behavior? In the second study, James Horne and colleagues at the Loughborough University Sleep Research Centre in England devised an experiment to test this question. The result was surprising. Not only could the cell phone signals alter a person's behavior during the call, the effects of the disrupted brain-wave patterns continued long after the phone was switched off.

Physicists have 'solved' Mystery of Levitation

Levitation has been elevated from being pure science fiction to science fact, according to a study reported today by physicists.
Now, in another report that sounds like it comes out of the pages of a Harry Potter book, the University of St Andrews team has created an 'incredible levitation effects’ by engineering the force of nature which normally causes objects to stick together.
Professor Ulf Leonhardt and Dr Thomas Philbin, from the University of St Andrews in Scotland, have worked out a way of reversing this pheneomenon, known as the Casimir force, so that it repels instead of attracts.

White House Has No Information On Hundreds Of Kidnapped, Executed Americans In Mexico

Cybercast News Service specifically asked Press Secretary Dana Perino last Friday for information pertaining to a still operative travel alert issued by the State Department, which warned travelers that violence "equivalent to military small-unit combat" was taking place along the southern U.S. border with Mexico.
"Recent Mexican army and police force conflicts with heavily-armed narcotics cartels have escalated to levels equivalent to military small-unit combat and have included use of machine guns and fragmentation grenades," said the State Department alert.
Perino told CNS that she did not know whether the President was aware of the alert or not.
A follow up email to the White House requesting specific information on legal action concerning 128 documented cases of murders and executions of Americans in Mexico in the last two years was met only with a recommendation to contact the attorney general of Mexico.

Forced Vaccinations part of Dark Eugenics Agenda

Assembly Bill 10942 would force children to take vaccines with or without parental consent in order to be admitted into these government facilities.

Here is a summary of some of the horrifying revelations that are in this particular bill.

Section 7 of the bill makes it easier for the government to forcibly inject residents and employees of care facilities with vaccines.
Section 10 of the bill requires meningococcal vaccinations for students in the seventh grade.
Section 11 of the bill requires college students to take the meningococcal vaccine.
Section 13 of the bill makes a series of vaccinations mandatory for students entering the seventh grade.
Section 15 and 16 of this bill requires that children be injected with a series of vaccinations that are approved and recommended by the U.S. Public Health Services of which the CDC falls under.
Section 17 allows physicians to forcibly inject minors with vaccines that supposedly prevent STD’s without parental consent.

This is not freedom folks. The government has no right to mandate that all children must take vaccines just to attend their brainwashing camps. This is another system of control and it must be resisted. There is too much evidence to indicate that these vaccines are not safe and making them mandatory is disgusting. Take this one report in which 3,500 adverse affects have been reported from young women who have taken Merck’s HPV Vaccine. Or check out this report from the American Chronicle which covers a research project that studied the effects of a typical vaccine load given to children on infant monkeys. The study revealed that the infant monkeys developed autism like signs and symptoms from taking the same vaccines that are commonly injected into children.
There is no doubt that there is a major effort by the establishment powers to hide the fact that there is a great deal of anecdotal and scientific evidence to indicate that these vaccines are the cause of the rampant increase in autism. Steve Watson over at InfoWars has gone into greater detail about this bill, other cases of the government forcing children to be vaccinated and the overall subject of vaccine autism. Be sure to check it out for even more information about this very important subject.

Suspect in MD Officer's Death was Strangled

A 19-year-old man suspected of killing a Prince George's County police officer was strangled in the county jail two days after his arrest, the state medical examiner's office concluded yesterday.
Ronnie L. White, who was found unresponsive Sunday morning, died of asphyxiation, and two small bones in his neck were broken, according to preliminary autopsy findings. County officials said he was separated from other inmates; only seven guards and an undisclosed number of supervisors had access to the area where White was held.
"We live in a constitutional democracy, and no one has the right to be judge and jury," Johnson said.

Marine Martial Law Training in Indianapolis

Under the guise of urban warfare training the 26th Expeditionary Unit an elite group of U.S. Marines will conduct a martial law training exercise at 26 “surrendered” locations in central Indiana from June 4th thru the 17th. While state officials and media are doing their best to assure the public that this military takeover of civilian property is somehow a good thing, ignoring the Posse Comitatus Act which fundamentally prohibits these types of exercises. These two weeks of training are also a contradiction of military tradition against deployments among the civilian population dating back to the end of the Civil War. Why then are the citizens of Indianapolis and six other Indiana towns being made to take part in two weeks of patrols and ambushes?

Security Scans show Sex Organs

SECURITY scanners that can see through passengers' clothing and reveal details such as their sex organs, colostomy bags and breast size, are being installed in 10 US airports. A random selection of travellers getting ready to board airplanes in Washington, New York's Kennedy, Los Angeles and other key hubs will be shut in the glass booths while a three-dimensional image is made of their body beneath their clothes.
The ACLU said passengers expecting privacy underneath their clothing "should not be required to display highly personal details of their bodies such as evidence of mastectomies, colostomy appliances, penile implants, catheter tubes and the size of their breasts or genitals as a pre-requisite to boarding a plane".

'Back from the Dead' Case Stuns Doctors

THE case of a man whose heart stopped beating for 1-1/2 hours only to revive just as doctors were preparing to remove his organs for transplants is fuelling ethical debates in France about when a person is dead.
Due to a series of complex circumstances, revival efforts continued for longer than usual for a patient whose heart was not responding to treatment, until doctors started preparations to remove organs. It was at that point that the astonished surgeons noticed the man was beginning to breathe unaided again, his pupils were active, he was giving signs that he could feel pain -- and finally, his heart started beating again.

Cuba Offers Vaccine against Lung Cancer

Cimavas EGF, based on two proteins, triggers an immune response from the victim's body and has absolutely no side effects, as most anti-cancer therapy does. The vaccine only attacks cancer cells. The vaccine is meant to serve as a compliment to rather than a replacement for conventional methods such as chemotherapy and radiation. The vaccine also improves patients’ breathing and decreases their pain.

Surprising Fact: 1/2 of Gun Deaths are Suicides!

Suicides accounted for 55 percent of the nation's nearly 31,000 firearm deaths in 2005, the most recent year for which statistics are available from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
There was nothing unique about that year — gun-related suicides have outnumbered firearm homicides and accidents for 20 of the last 25 years. In 2005, homicides accounted for 40 percent of gun deaths. Accidents accounted for 3 percent. The remaining 2 percent included legal killings, such as when police do the shooting, and cases that involve undetermined intent.
