Iran's Twitter Revolution: Propaganda??
Anyone using Twitter over the past few days knows that the topic of the Iranian election has been the most popular. Thousands of tweets and retweets alleging that the election was a fraud, calling for protests in Iran, and even urging followers hack various Iranian news websites (which they did successfully). The Twitter popularity caught the eye of various blogs such as Mashable and TechCrunch and even made its way to mainstream news media sites.
Were these legitimate Iranian people or the works of a propaganda machine? I became curious and decided to investigate the origins of the information. In doing so, I narrowed it down to a handful of people who have accounted for 30,000 Iran related tweets in the past few days. Each of them had some striking similarities -
1. They each created their twitter accounts on Saturday June 13th.
2. Each had extremely high number of Tweets since creating their profiles.
3. “IranElection” was each of their most popular keyword
4. With some very small exceptions, each were posting in ENGLISH.
5. Half of them had the exact same profile photo
6. Each had thousands of followers, with only a few friends. Most of their friends were EACH OTHER.

While it goes without saying that you are an icon and a legend in late night talk, I have to say that I have no sympathy for you in your recent situation with Sarah Palin.
I personally have no problem with what you said, and think Mrs. Palin is just trying to get leverage and PR out of the situation.
However, this debacle has no doubt brought you back to the night of October 1st, 1993.
On that evening, the late William Melvin (Bill) Hicks was scheduled to perform on your program. This was to be Bill's 12th performance on your legendary show. Several years earlier, Jay Leno had brought Bill to the attention of your producers, being as Bill was a bit too edgy for the Tonight Show's more mainstream audience.
Bill performed his pre-approved routine and all was well. Then, before it aired, Bill received a phone call that the bit had been cut from the show. It ultimately became apparent that sponsor backlash to Bill's mild, but biting, commentary on Christianity and abortion had prompted the heads of the Late Night to pull Bill's entire set.
Your failure to stand up against the Almighty Sponsor and their censorship 15 1/2 years ago has come back to bite you in the ass. You, David Letterman, a late night talk show host with 27 glorious years of broadcasting and comedy under your belt, have been reduced to a shadow of your previous stature. You grovelled and you apologized for a joke, something a comedian should never, under any circumstance, ever have to do. You apologized for being who you are.
Your shameful treatment of our generation's greatest (in this author's humble opinion) and most under-rated, under-appreciated, yet smartest and brightest comedic minds was the black mark on your record that could never be undone. Your current situation simply proves that what goes around, truly does come around.

Inventor denied patent for human 'killer chip'
“While the application is still pending further paperwork on his part, the invention will probably be found to violate paragraph two of the German Patent Law – which does not allow inventions that transgress public order or good morals,” spokeswoman Stephanie Krüger told The Local from Munich.

Vans With Explosives Confirmed At The World Trade Center on September 11th
Reports of vans packed with explosives were confirmed at the World Trade Center on September 11th, 2001 as well as sub level explosions, among many other explosions. Vans were also discovered around the area, one had been exploded, one had been stopped for having a picture on the side of it with a plane flying into the World Trade Center, one had been stopped and found with explosives in it, and many others. The FBI actually had confirmed that a device was found in the complex and the building had begun to evacuate. It was this evidence that made the Federal Agency to speculate that a van packed with explosives was parked in the garage which was detonated to help weaken the structure.
The New York City Authorities released the recordings of the radios from that day where one officer reports a van actually exploding and him needing assistance ASAP. Another series of radio communication confirms that a van was pulled over for having a mural on the side of it depicting a plane flying into the World Trade Center. Reference to the mural van was also made in the February 2006 Norman Y. Mineta International Institute for Surface Transportation Policy Studies (MTI) report entitled: “Saving City Lifelines: Lessons Learned in the 9-11 Terrorist Attacks”.

Christian teaching is clear: the God of the Old Testament is the same God as the God of the New Testament. Doonesbury's Reverend Sloan is guilty of promoting anti-Jewish stereotypes and biblical illiteracy. He owes both Jews and Christians an apology.

Man in Sodomy Case Sues NYC, Police
Three New York City police officers pleaded innocent in December to criminal charges that one of them sodomized Michael Mineo on October 15 with a police baton on a subway platform and two others helped cover up the crime.
"When you distill it, it was a male on male rape," Kevin Mosley, a lawyer for Mineo, said on Thursday.
No Charges in Ronnie White Death
White, 19, was found dead in his jail cell in the maximum-security section of the Prince George's Corrections Center on June 29, two days after he was arrested and charged with first-degree murder for allegedly running down and killing Prince George's County police Sgt. Richard Findley in a stolen truck.
The state medical examiner ruled White's death a homicide, but corrections officers said White committed suicide. White suffered two broken bones in his neck and died of asphyxiation caused by strangulation, according to the medical examiner. In December, a grand jury concluded its deliberation in the investigation without taking action. The grand jury did not hear enough evidence to bring down indictments in the case, sources said.

A Japanese court sentenced an Israeli to eight years in prison on Friday after convicting him of attempting to smuggle Ecstasy into the country, according to friends of his family. The Israeli, who was a minor at the time of the crime, is the youngest of three yeshiva students arrested a year ago while attempting to enter Japan with suitcases containing large quantities of Ecstasy pills.
Goldstein, Grinwald and the minor were arrested in April 2008 at Tokyo's Narita International airport after arriving on a flight from Amsterdam. Customs officials found that they were carrying 90,000 Ecstasy pills after suspicions were raised over their large suitcases.

The second thing that makes me uneasy is that the stories selected by Memri for translation follow a familiar pattern: either they reflect badly on the character of Arabs or they in some way further the political agenda of Israel. I am not alone in this unease.

Six more Israeli 'spies' caught in Lebanon
Lebanese authorities have arrested six more people accused of spying for Tel Aviv amid a campaign aimed at curtailing Israel's intelligence operations in Lebanon.
The latest captures take to 16 the number of suspected Israeli spies arrested since January, an army spokesperson, speaking on condition of anonymity, told AFP.
The arrests include a police officer and his wife who were taken into custody late Sunday. Three others, accused of passing on information to Israel, were detained also on Sunday in the southern the village of Habboush.

Lawsuit charges Baxter used Dangerous Ingredients in Vaccines to Increase Profits
Last year Baxter recalled almost all of its injections of the blood thinning heparin drug in the US after some patients experienced extreme - and in some cases fatal - allergic reactions, after being administered the products.

US soliders using "water torture" (now called waterboarding) on Phillipino prisoners after the USA invaded that country. The story goes like this: The US didn't torture until the Bush gang came to power. A running theme in the liberal commentariat is that things have gotten much worse. But have they? Glenn Greenwald reminds us that even Reagan opposed torture, so see how low we've fallen.
It's certainly true that Reagan, like most leaders, regularly violated the principles he espoused [eg, opposition to torture] and sought to impose on others, but still, there is an important difference between (a) affirming core principles of the civilized world but then violating them and (b) explicitly rejecting those principles. The bill, proposed by conservative President Felipe Calderon, would make it legal to carry up to 5 grams (0.18 ounces) of marijuana, 500 milligrams (0.018 ounces) of cocaine and tiny quantities of other drugs such as heroin and methamphetamines.

USAMRIID is the Army's top biodefense lab, where researchers study pathogens including Ebola, anthrax and plague.
In February, USAMRIID halted all its research into these and other diseases, known as "select agents" following the discovery of virus samples that weren't listed in its inventory.
Iran: We've arrested Israel spy ring
Iranian authorities have arrested a group of people linked to Israel who are suspected of planning bombings ahead of the Islamic republic's presidential election on June 12, Reuters cited the country's intelligence minister as saying on Sunday.
"A group of deceived elements... who wanted to carry out explosions, particularly before the June election, was arrested," Intelligence Minister Gholamhossein Mohseni-Ejei was quoted as telling Iranian radio.
Ice at the North Pole in 1958 Not So Thick
What would NSIDC and our media make of a photo like this if released by the NAVY today? Would we see headlines like “NORTH POLE NOW OPEN WATER”? Or maybe “Global warming melts North Pole”? Perhaps we would. sensationalism is all the rage these days. If it melts it makes headlines.
“the Skate found open water both in the summer and following winter. We surfaced near the North Pole in the winter through thin ice less than 2 feet thick. The ice moves from Alaska to Iceland and the wind and tides causes open water as the ice breaks up. The Ice at the polar ice cap is an average of 6-8 feet thick, but with the wind and tides the ice will crack and open into large polynyas (areas of open water), these areas will refreeze over with thin ice. We had sonar equipment that would find these open or thin areas to come up through, thus limiting any damage to the submarine. The ice would also close in and cover these areas crushing together making large ice ridges both above and below the water. We came up through a very large opening in 1958 that was 1/2 mile long and 200 yards wide. The wind came up and closed the opening within 2 hours. On both trips we were able to find open water. We were not able to surface through ice thicker than 3 feet.”
