Prices for 16 basic food items shoot up in third quarter

Supermarket prices for 16 basic food items surged to a record in the third quarter because of higher commodity costs and increased processing and transportation expenses, the American Farm Bureau Federation said Thursday.
The average cost of typical weekly consumer purchases rose 11% to $48.68 in the three months ended Sept. 30, from $44.03 a year earlier, the federation said. Costs rose 4.3% from the second quarter.

Record numbers using food stamps in Ohio, Michigan

Nationally, the number of people using food stamps is due to reach 28 million by next year, tying a record for the program set in 1994. As one might expect, the number of people using food stamps in economically devastated Michigan and Ohio is particularly high; more than 1.25 million—a record number—of Michigan residents now receive food assistance, while the 1.1 million Ohio residents using food stamps represent a doubling of the number since 2001. The latter figure does not include the estimated 500,000 people who are eligible for food stamps but have not signed up.

Traitor (and Former FED Chairman) Alan Greenspan Urges Gulf States to Abandon Dollar

Alan Greenspan has again exposed himself as a traitor working against the interests of the American people by urging Gulf states to abandon the dollar peg, a move that could result in financial chaos and an economic depression in America.
The dollar peg mandates Gulf nations to price their assets in U.S. dollars and follow U.S. monetary policy at a time when the Fed is cutting interest rates, a system that has produced a boom in oil revenues but led to high inflation as the dollar weakens.
"It [de-pegging] is probably the most useful thing that can be done to stop the increasing influence of foreign assets on the monetary system and therefore the monetary base which is basically the major force in inflationary pressures," Greenspan told the Abu Dhabi Corporate Leadership Forum yesterday.
